My own Manifesto
Manifesto: Exploring Materiality and Print Design in Reflective Practice
Understanding letterforms involves experimenting with different materials, which evokes a strong sense of materiality that can become part of your reflective practice. By exploring typefaces through such experimentation within different materials, you can transform the letter in a tactile way, which becomes the visual focal point throughout. The purpose is to allow room for an iterative process of experimentation, this adds breadth to the physical and tactile form of a single letterform. This adds value towards a deeper understanding of how we can deal with letters in ways that become experimental by applying them to different mediums.
Print design allows for a visual perspective and adds value to typography as a form of expression through visual communication. Whether it's through unconventional materials, innovative printing techniques, or spatial manipulation, each experimentation becomes a narrative in itself, inviting engagement and sparking curiosity. Pushing unfamiliar boundaries and working with letterforms allows for an experimental mindset to shape ideas from the way we reflectively apply ourselves.
This can open doors towards endless creative possibilities that could interpret a new way of seeing type more experimentally. This manifesto stands as a testament to what I have found to be beneficial in my working practice. The idea of expressing letterforms as materials enriches their communication value and narrative which resonates within my process of reflective practice.
