Other visual examples of materiality

Another form of materiality is the work of Darren Page, who was also my lecturer and supervisor for my BA major. Before even starting this module Dan my lecturer suggested that my group attend Darren's exhibition showcasing the work of Foursandeight studio in Portsmouth, Southsea which he co-runs with his wife Marie. I already was well-established there and so I wanted to attend and see the work up close.

Below are photos taken from the exhibition.

I found myself deeply engaged within the designs present, looking back now actually pointed out how relevant attending this exhibition was for my research and understanding of materiality from a visual and sensory perspective.

I can identify that Darren's work clearly outlines such material aspects within his image-making from the perspective of print design and working with such textures. From what I could see from the work displayed was the vibrancy of the print colours which was archived using the Risograph machine. I became engaged fully by analysing the clear design structures of these prints to connote a systematic approach to image making.

Undeniably, this work clearly outlines the importance of print design in the modern day, it adds value to the meaning of materiality and promotes a tactile response towards print being the essence of the overall function of the design, making it captivate your senses in a unique and informative way.
