This post outlines my notes from watching Jac's tutorial on the importance of having a research blog and what I needed to consider when uploading posts. Below is the video that I watched and took notes from which allowed me to think about the What, Who, How, Why, and Can.

Having made notes on this topic, allowed me to understand the importance of starting a blog for research and keeping it up to date to show my findings. This will support the practice-based research in how I want to tackle trying to answer my chosen question of research. I feel that having a blog like this will allow me to document my findings and show my personal development from each blog entry I upload showing my practice. it's important to keep track of your findings so using a blog will allow me to be accountable for my progress in exploring my chosen question of research focusing on "How can materiality enhance the user/audience experience, in your own practice?"

This was a great lecture given by Dan on the difference between visual research and visualising research. Dan pointed out from the perspective of Gillian Rose, who wrote the book Visual Methodologies: An Introduction to Researching with Visual Materials, that "Empirically grounded responses to a particular visual material" (Rose, 2016). What I found interesting at this point was the fact it is very much linked to materiality and within its connections towards my own practice whilst supporting my chosen question for this module.  The screenshot shows Dan's lecture and some of the books mentioned to explore. Lectures and workshops

Today was a long day full of lectures and workshops all of which were aimed at a question of research from different practices from academia to fashion design. I found myself at the start of the day thinking of what to expect as there were also workshops in both the morning and afternoon sessions. However, at this stage of my journey, I feel that it is important to have an open-minded approach to what I will learn from these workshops. This is because you can cherry-pick from them and apply them to your own practice in ways that make sense to you. Letter press & printing press exploration: responding to Re-Printed Matter

Today was a full day again in the print studio. I decided to explore further printing press on the Albion using wood type and modular shapes that I had made before on the laser cutting machine. I found myself exploring the metal brackets that I decided to purchase via Amazon after I saw some great examples from Graphic designer Karel Marten's book Re-Printed Matter (2019). I knew that I wanted to respond to Marten's work because this will allow me to adapt my visual understanding towards the importance of print design from the perspective of materiality.
