1 to 1 tutorial with lecturer Dan McCabe
This tutorial, was really beneficial for me, as it got me to ask the relevant questions that I wanted to find out more about. The main topic really was to ask questions of research and find out more about what I could do within my current stages of working. I am definitely someone who likes to ask for advice and feel that it allows me to shape my ideas and development further. So, to have this time and talk about my current work, really did help me to put my mind at ease and to challenge myself to continue exploring within my practice-based research.
Lots of notes were taken after I had my tutorial with Dan, this allowed me to reflect upon what was said for me to think about and explore next. I still felt somewhat lost at times and also questioned my own practice, asking myself 'Is this right'? I was very much like this in my BA going through each module of work, questioning my judgment and not having the confidence in the decisions that I was making.
However, I feel that this can be normal and it's what you do next can make all the difference. Having these personal tutorials helps me to ask the questions that are racing around in my mind and to ask advice from creative people who clearly have been in similar situations to me.
I was advised by Dan to think about my question about research on materiality and how this supports the user? Is the user me or is it a group of people?
Not only this but it was said about considering writing a manifesto for the work I have done and what I believe to be relevant within my own practice and how I feel it can be beneficial to other designers to explore also. This is because I still believe in the art of print design and how it can elevate and make you a better designer.
The thing is, I have never even thought about writing my own manifesto. Will it be a long one, or will it be a short one?
Who is this manifesto for, the designers or just for me to remind myself of my own practice??
I need to research into this.
